When I rebuilt Drive Academy this year, I stripped it right back to what learners actually want: type in a postcode, see the instructors nearby, and contact one directly. No accounts for learners, no booking fees, no middleman.
Built for instructors too
Instructors are busy people. Many are excellent teachers without the time, or the interest, to build and maintain a website. So alongside the directory listing, every instructor can switch on a free webpage at my-driving-school.co.uk. It shows their prices, the areas they cover, photos they choose to add, and a contact form, and it's set up to be found on Google.
Keeping it fair
The directory is free for learners and for instructors. Learners are reminded to check an instructor's ADI badge, and instructors confirm they're on the DVSA register when they sign up. Enquiries go straight to the instructor by email.
It's a simple idea, and that's the point: the easier it is for a learner to find a good local instructor, the better for everyone.
